Certified Phlebotomist – FCI-Marianna

  • Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries, Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.
  • Type of Employment: Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
  • Period of Performance: 01 June 2026 – 31 May 2031.
  • Estimate Pay: $18.36 – $23.45 per hour.
  • Paid Time Off: Up to 80 hours per year, which starts accruing on the day of hire.
  • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56 hours per year, which starts occurring on the day of hire.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays

Working Hours
The Certified Phlebotomist will normally work Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break, except on Federal holidays. A Certified Phlebotomist will not work more than 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed Phlebotomy specialty training from an accredited Phlebotomy school/program.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of six (6) months of experience with basic laboratory and phlebotomy skills.
  • Have experience with specimen collection, packaging, and shipment to referral laboratories with knowledge of maintaining appropriate records.
  • Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA).

Attire

The Certified Phlebotomist is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the BPA employee will be performing. The contractor is prohibited from wearing khaki or green, as these are the colors worn by adults in custody.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performing venipunctures on inmate patients for analysis or other medical purposes.
  • Collect blood and urine samples and prepare and track all laboratory samples.
  • Assist the Physician, Physician Assistant, and/or Nurse with patient flow in a clinic setting by measuring patients' vital signs and weight and scanning laboratory results in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
  • Maintaining logbooks for patient medical records and entering data into the computer for retrieval.
  • Collecting and packaging specimens to ship for laboratory analysis.
  • Conducting inmate interviews and scheduling inmate patients for lab work.
  • Taking and recording vital signs of inmate patients.
  • Maintaining an accurate count of supplies, stock supplies, and preparing stock orders.
  • Participation in emergency training exercises and maintaining skills in the operation of
  • emergency equipment.
  • Prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported according to the contract or Bureau of Prisons (BOP) Reference Laboratory guidelines and document the process per Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures.
  • Ensure that lab requests are completed accurately and that all reports are returned from the contract lab.
  • Notify the provider, update the log as received, follow up appropriately, and file or scan the results in the lab and medical record.
  • Assist the HSA and Clinical Director with writing and implementing policies that deal with the laboratory program.
