Job Description

Scout Security

HR Manager

Denver, CO | Onsite | Full-Time | Salary: $75,000–$85,000

Position Summary

Scout Security is looking for a driven, tactical HR Manager to own our people operations from the ground up. As the primary HR point of contact, you'll lead an always-on recruiting engine for our hourly security guard workforce while handling the full spectrum of HR functions — from compliance and payroll to employee relations and process building. You will be an integral member of our leadership team, partnering closely with operations, client success, and senior leadership to solve people challenges in real time. This role is built for an HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced, startup-style environment, isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves on tactical work, and wants to grow into a senior leadership position as we scale the business.

About the Company

Scout Security provides professional security staffing for multifamily apartment communities throughout the Denver metro area. We're a scrappy, high-growth business that has been operating for over three years under current ownership, with a strong commitment to delivering reliable, responsive security services to our clients around the clock. Our team wears many hats and moves fast — everyone, from leadership to front-line staff, is expected to show up, problem-solve, and do what it takes to get the job done. [Insert company mission, vision, and core values here.]

Objectives & Responsibilities

In order of importance:

  • Lead full-cycle recruiting for security guard and administrative positions — manage job postings, partner with the internal recruiter on screening, conduct second-round interviews, and make final hiring decisions
  • Coordinate with operations on real-time staffing needs, including filling urgent shift call-outs on evenings and weekends to ensure client coverage at all times
  • Own onboarding for all new hires — coordinate logistics, documentation, and first-day experience to ensure a smooth transition from offer to start date
  • Manage scheduling and timekeeping for hourly employees, including time computation and bi-weekly payroll processing in Gusto
  • Serve as HR Business Partner to operations supervisors and office staff — handle employee relations, performance coaching, corrective actions, and day-to-day people challenges
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable federal, Colorado state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Build, document, and continuously improve HR processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support a scalable people function
  • Support supervisors with people management by providing guidance on coaching conversations, performance documentation, and corrective action
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, client success, and office management on people-related needs and projects
  • Administer HR programs including benefits enrollment, 401(k), PTO tracking, and company holiday compliance
  • Track and report key recruiting metrics (time-to-fill, source quality, retention) to leadership to continuously improve hiring outcomes
  • Contribute to leadership team discussions on culture, HR strategy, and workforce planning as the company grows

Competencies

  • Strong ownership mentality — you treat the business like it's your own
  • Ability to manage multiple urgent priorities simultaneously without dropping the ball
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of the organization
  • High adaptability and comfort with ambiguity in a startup environment
  • Collaborative partner who builds strong relationships across functions
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills — nothing falls through the cracks
  • Availability and responsiveness for urgent, time-sensitive staffing situations
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive employee matters
  • Ability to operate both on the ground (tactically) and with an eye toward the future (strategically)

Education & Experience

  • 3–5 years of HR experience, with demonstrated progression from entry-level HR functions through more senior responsibilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
  • HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent) preferred
  • Payroll processing experience required; experience with Gusto is a plus
  • Experience recruiting for high-volume hourly/frontline roles strongly preferred
  • Experience in a startup or high-growth, scrappy environment strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Colorado employment law and compliance

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $75,000 – $85,000 per year (exempt, salaried)
  • Schedule: 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM with a daily 9:00 AM leadership huddle (~10–30 min); flexibility required for urgent staffing situations
  • Health Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Retirement: 401(k) plan
  • PTO: Unlimited paid time off (with approval process and guardrails)
  • Holidays: 12 paid company-observed holidays per year

Physical Requirements

  • This role is primarily office-based and requires extended periods of computer and phone work
  • Must be able to work from the Scout Security office at 1325 S Colorado Blvd, Denver, CO 80222
  • Occasional evening and weekend availability is required for urgent staffing situations

Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
