Full Time
Position Description:The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Iowa invites applications for an open-rank clinical-track faculty position. We are seeking a clinical psychologist to play a key role in training students in our Clinical Science doctoral program, alongside a collaborative team of tenure- and clinical-track faculty. The successful candidate will teach core clinical seminars and supervise doctoral students in assessment and psychotherapy in our well-resourced, freestanding Seashore Psychology Clinic. We are especially looking for candidates eager to take on the leadership position of Clinic Director.
We are looking for candidates with experience in evidence-based assessment and psychotherapy, as well as a background in teaching and supervising graduate trainees in clinical psychology. Clinical supervision emphasizes in vivo and observation methods. The successful candidate will have experience implementing and teaching a variety of evidence-based interventions that complement current training opportunities, including behavior therapy/exposure and transdiagnostic approaches (e.g., CBT, Unified Protocol, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy). Candidates should be licensed or license-eligible in the state of Iowa.
Our Clinical Science doctoral program is accredited by the American Psychological Association and the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System and is a member of the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science. The Seashore Clinic trains our graduate students while also providing low-cost, evidence-based mental-health care to the Iowa City community through a sliding-scale fee schedule. The clinic is supported by a full-time administrator and offers services that include psychodiagnostic assessments and individual therapy across a range of evidence-supported modalities. We prioritize accessibility through both in-person and telehealth options, reaching individuals across Iowa. Equipped with a digital video observation system and an electronic health record and scheduling system, our clinic also supports various clinical research activities, focusing on ADHD, disruptive behavior disorders, psychosis, and mood and anxiety disorders.
For more information about our exciting research opportunities and to apply, please visit the Clinical Science website.
Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The appointment will begin as early as summer or fall 2026. The initial term for this non-tenure-track appointment is three years with the expectation of reappointment given satisfactory performance. Candidates must have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment and must be licensed or license-eligible in the state of Iowa.
The University of Iowa is a leading public university located in Iowa City, a UNESCO City of Literature with a high quality of life. This faculty position continues an extended period of departmental investment, highlighted most prominently by the recent completion of a new Psychological and Brain Sciences Building and a beautifully renovated Stuit Hall that houses the Seashore Clinic, clinical labs, and offices.
